Kintyre Photo is based just outside Clachan, a small hamlet 9 miles south from Tarbert on the Kintyre Peninsula. The idea behind the business is to to make use of the lovely surroundings and the many great photo opportunities that Kintyre provides to take and supply photos to individuals and organisations.

The Kintyre peninsula is 40 miles long and is located on Scotland's west coast. It stretches from Tarbert in the north to the Mull of Kintyre, with its famous lighthouse, in the south. Kintyre was described by the Vikings as 'almost an island' - and it is often referred to as 'The Island of Kintyre' - the only mainland island in Scotland. Kintyre is connected to the main land only by a narrow neck of land at Tarbert. In fact the name Tarbert means a narrow strip of land separating two bodies of water.

The Mull of Kintyre has more recently been made famous by Sir Paul McCarthney's song of that very name. The first lighthouse was built in 1788 to warn shipping of the rocky headland ahead. The waters are dangerous as there is a fierce current running around the headland. The term 'Mull of Kintyre' actually refers to the 'point' or 'head' of Kintyre - not, as is often thought, to the whole peninsula. Northern Ireland is only is only a few miles across the water from the Mull.

In the west there is the Atlantic sea with its big waves that come crashing on to the sandy beaches, and gorgeous views out to Jura and Isla. On the eastern shore there are the more sheltered waters of the Firth of Clyde, and small villages and fishing ports. The wildlife is amazing - eagles, sparrow hawks, owls, gannets and guillemots. There are seal colonies, three or four varieties of deer, whales, - not to mention otters and dolphins.

The area boasts several golf courses including the well known links course at Machrahanish. A new links course is being built at the moment.

Great places to visit include standing stones, castles, chapels, churches, historic monuments - and distilleries. With a population of around 5000 Campbeltown, the 'Wee Toon', is the main population centre on the peninsula. It could boast over 30 distilleries in its hey-day. Today there are only two left.

The area offers many fantastic opportunities for anyone who enjoys outdoor life and beautiful scenery. This was the inspiration behind setting up a photography business; the opportunities on our doorstep are just irresistible.
